Unlike the traditional six-speeder found in the 2.0-litre Scirocco Sport and the Golf GTI, the Scirocco 1.4-litre TSI receives the 7-speed “dry clutch” DSG. This means that the engine and gearbox operates with a minimal amount of engine oil – around 4-litres to be exact, compared to the 8-litres needed in the traditional 6-speed DSG setups.

The tensioner tends to fail on start-up from cold as the tensioner does not apply the correct pressure (ratchet fails) until the oil pressure activates it. This causes the timing chain to slip and the ECU tries to compensate to keep the engine running and the result is valves
In my opinion the 1.4 TSI has more than adequate performance for most motorists' needs (and that is in no way a criticism of the 2.0 TSI which is a really quick car). In terms of extras, the 1.4 TSI has a good standard spec and I would not bother with much other than rear parking sensors. T.

It might not be as new and sophisticated as the EA888 found Depends on the dealer. Many dealers use Castrol LL03 5W-30 and it makes a huge difference in MPG. I ran it for 7500 miles and had the oil tested. See my post on testing the oil by blackstone. My dealer had used the Castrol 5W-40 and MPG immediately dropped signifacntly from FACTORY oil which I believe is 5W-30.
The smaller four-pot is available in lively 125bhp guise, while the cooking 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI offer either 180bhp (replacing the old 160bhp 1.4) or a meaty 220bhp - the latter with a 6.3iskzR.
