As the title says, I finished HL:A without VR and it's not that good. I used a mod called Half-Life: Alyx no vr mod, it isn't like the pancake vr mod, this one lets you play with Alyx's weapons and tries to simulate VR. It's pretty weird at first, but I got used to it. And now that I finished the game all I can say is that it's not worth the
It's a redone version of half life 1. It won't be blowing you away with graphics, but Halflife 1 did not carry itself on graphics alone. That is why it is a classic. Worth a playthrough. You can play a free remake of hl1 remastered in hl2 engine called Black Mesa, then play hl2 if the first game seems to aged.
It's a brilliant game though, if you can get your head around its age. It won't have the same impact it had back in 1998 but it's definately worth playing and I also prefer it to Half-Life 2 (probably nostalgia more than anything though). A small warning though, the first game is much more difficult and unforgiving than the second.

Half-Life: Alyx is worth the price of entry alone. Thoughtful mechanics and puzzles that play to VR's strengths just to squeeze every ounce of performance and detail out of Half-Life 2

Half-Life 2 Still Holds Up as One of the Best Video Games of All Time. Apart from its 25-year-old visuals and audio, Half-Life 's technical issues and often unpredictable gameplay are an undeniably frustrating mess. In many ways, Half-Life is a well-oiled and smooth ride, but there are some instances in the game that will undoubtedly cause
The high definition pack noticeably enhances some of Half-Life's graphics. It takes much more effort to put Half-Life: Blue Shift into proper context with all the preceding Half-Life products than

Yes. Thanks everyone, I've decided to play Half Life 2 first to have a break from half life 1 so that later I can fully enjoy Black Mesa and its updated graphics. If you liked the HL games you're prob gonna like Black Mesa. I'd recommend playing through HL2 and the episodes first tho.

Half-Life 2. Playing as scientist Gordon Freeman, Half-Life 2 finds you living in the aftermath of the Black Mesa Incident as you battle against horrific creatures to free humanity from the Combine. You'll meet up with various allies along the way, including such friends as Alyx Vance.

Half Life 1 is still worth playing it its original form (ignore the fact that I got fed up with it and stopped playing halfway through, I suck at games) even with the jank. Both are definitely worth your time, Black Mesa as a good game in its own right, and Half-Life as the revolutionary leap forward in technology, storytelling and gameplay Do not play Alyx without at least playing HL2 and its two episodes. I have no idea why people are recommending otherwise. Sure the gameplay is nice but the game is meaningless without knowing what world you're getting yourself into. A recap would be alright, but it's a lot better just playing the games yourself. Yes, the game is still worth playing. I'd recommend getting the Anthology - with Blue Shift, Opposing Force, and TF Classic - because those games still hold up as well. @Demmetje: I have started half life 1 multiple times but have never finished it. I finally just watched a speed run through of it and called it quits.
